Cambodia Casinos
There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino gaming is not allowed. Eight casinos are established in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of most border crossings.
The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling den, features 150 one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
