Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, where casino betting is banned. Eight casinos are established in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and although visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel compound that highlights many comforts aside from the casino, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 table games.
